Many Americans wish they could change something about themselves. Such as being taller, shorter, or being richer just to name a few. There is a fine line between wanting to change something and having low self esteem. Having a negative or hateful view of yourself is associated with low self esteem. Those suffering from low self esteem usually look at themselves and others negatively, lack confidence, and perform poorly. Trying to figure out what percent of the population suffers from low self esteem is nearly impossible as low self esteem is related to many other emotional issues.

Oregon drop out rates in 2006/2007 may be on the decline according to the Oregon Department of Education. The drop out rate was 4.1% down from 4.3% the previous year. However this is still about 7,400 students who drop out of Oregon schools each year. The national drop out average is still high. According to the National Education Association (NEA.Org), in 2006 the national drop out rate was 68%. What is even more shocking is the amount of students who study at home. According to NCES.Org, 12% of 4th graders spend one hour at home studying while the number increased to 37% of 12th graders. The numbers may increase as grade levels increase, however that means 63% of 12th graders are not studying at home.

Gambling has been a past time of many people from all over the world, from Las Vegas, China and even to India. In fact, according to PBS.org, 87% of people who visit Las Vegas gambled. Of those 87%, 67% played the slot machines. In places such as India, gambling is a main source of income. PBS.org estimates that in 1997 alone over 27 billion dollars a year was made from gambling. That was ten years ago, those numbers only went up. For many people, a little recreation gambling is not acceptable, they become addicted and obsessed.
